P52 / 21 / bittersweet

I only have one picture this week, because I went to the 8th grade dinner and awards ceremony with my camera but no memory card. Fail. It's ok, though, because this picture captures everyone's personality so perfectly!!

P52 / 21 / bittersweet
These are my precious eighth graders. I have had the privilege of teaching seven of them for all three years of middle school!! They've come a long way (and so have I) and now all of them are heading off to the wonderful world of high school. They bring joy to my life and challenge me to be a better teacher. I am so very proud of their accomplishments and growth, but so very sad that I no longer get to have them in class and see them everyday.

Pictures for week 20 come from my trip with the eighth graders to Lugano, Switzerland. Read about our adventures here.

foody friday: fruit smoothies

One of my favorite things about spring is the fresh fruit that suddenly abounds, both in the fields and the grocery stores. I am slightly addicted to fruit smoothies, and after much trial and error have developed my go-to recipe, which only adds to the pleasantness of waking up to the sun on a warm spring morning. For someone who hates mornings, I love waking up to this.

For fun, I'm going to write the recipe in German since that was my homework for German class this week.

6 stueck erdbeeren
15 stueck heidelbeeren
1 banane
1 kiwi
100g joghurt
1 schluck orangensaft

Translation:
6 strawberries
15 blueberries
1 banana
1 kiwi
100g yogurt
1 splash of orange jiuce

This week I received an outpouring of love from friends, colleagues, and parents of my students on Valentine's Day. Here's just a taste of all the goodies!

P52 / 01A / new

The first P52 theme of 2012 is NEW. This can be interpreted many different ways... yesterday I interpreted it literally with my brand new Ticket to Ride expansion pack, which I received from my grandma for Christmas. There's just something satisfying about breaking open the plastic wrapping and smelling the freshness of a brand new toy. Yes, I'm 25 years old and still playing with toys.

Are you playing along this week? Add a link to your post below and share it with me!

2012 Goal: Project 52

After a year of posting a daily picture, I confess: I'm tired!! I don't want to stop working on my photography, though, so this year I am scaling back a bit and have set my sights on a Project 52. This means I'll be posting on a weekly basis (52 weeks in a year) rather than daily. For this project, I will take pictures that reflect a given weekly theme. Due to the nature of this project, I am not requiring myself to post on a daily basis, nor will I be limiting myself to one picture a day. For the second reason, Double Feature Friday may be gone for awhile. In its place I will be introducing "Foody Friday" posts. By far, my most popular subject matter in 2011 seemed to be food, so this year I will be practicing foody photography and hopefully introducing you to some new European cuisine. I may even branch out and share recipes if the featured food was something I prepared myself!

And yes, I know "foody" should be spelled with an -ie.

So, if you're interested in playing along, feel free to leave a link in the comments section so I can find you and follow along with you, too.

I'm really excited for this project, so let the fun begin!

#364: got milk??

Today is the last post for 2011 (even though it's being posted in 2012!). I've known for awhile now that my numbering is screwed up because obviously this post should be titled #365. I went though every post and couldn't find my mistake, so just go with me on this one.

We bought all this cereal in one shopping trip. Don't judge, it was on sale!! I might smuggle some of it back into Germany...

Happy New Year!

#361: deja food

Spotted Salsa Verde flavor at Wal-Mart tonight... haven't seen these for sale in years!! Of course I had to buy some, and I'm pretty sure they changed the recipe...

#351: SADCC Day 18: the waterfall...sorta

I tried to do the waterfall today, but my scarf is too short to wrap around twice. So, this is the modified waterfall. I almost like this better than the actual waterfall.

Yes, it's snowing in my living room. Today we got snow in Kandern for the first time! It was during church and they opened the blinds so we could see it softly falling while we sang.

Also, by now you have noticed my epic hat. Today was my Elf Party, wherein we watched the movie and partook in the four main food groups of elves: candy, candy canes, candy corn, and syrup. Well, we didn't have syrup so it wasn't a balanced meal...

#295: brunch, anyone?

This weekend I'm a substitute mom at the middle school house, and I had the privilege of serving them a delicious brunch this morning. YUM.

#294: friday lunch

A new middle school tradition is to have a special lunch on Fridays. We bring in meat & cheese, chips, desserts, etc. and buy delicious fresh bread from a local farmer. It's the highlihght of our week.

#268: mug shot

My new mug, a present to myself from the annual Kandern Topfermarkt. I intended to buy a mug that matched the one I bought last year, but that artist wasn't there this year. So, I got two of these monsters instead. Beautiful, no?
