P52 / 16 / anticipation

This series of pictures follows my anticipation for my friend Megan's birthday on Friday. My gift to her was a handmade pearl necklace, as you can see in the last picture.

[With Picnik officially shut down, I have had to find a new photo editing program. I'm currently using PicMonkey but they are still a work in progress and have yet to enable their "collage" feature.]

P52 / 14 / break

My first week of spring break went something like this:

P52 / 14 / break
Don't judge me!!

P52 / 13 / work

During the last week of classes before Spring Break, I put my life science students to work dissecting owl pellets! Yummy!!

P52 / 07 / love

This week I received an outpouring of love from friends, colleagues, and parents of my students on Valentine's Day. Here's just a taste of all the goodies!

P52 / 05 / cold

This week I chose a generic prompt from a list I found, which turned out to be very appropriate! Temperatures dropped and snow fell throughout the week, creating a winder wonderland here in Kandern. The top right pic in this collage is my car thermometer one morning (It says -6.5*C), but the temperature has been as low as -11*C at times!! BRR!!

**Yes, the snowflakes are fake.

foody friday: wiener schnitzel

This week I whipped up some wiener schnitzel using a nifty little packet of seasoning that only cost about fifty cents! I'm sure there is a more "traditional" way of doing this, but I liked the ease of using the premade seasoning. I wasn't quite sure if I did it right, but when my friend Katrina (who grew up in Austria) came over and saw them she said they looked great. Yum!

P52 / 03 / random

This week's topic is Random. The collage I made sums up what was quite possibly the most random event of my week. Our staff office has two large windows that overlook a field and a small driveway. One afternoon I just happened to look up from my desk to see a group of students dressed in colorful wigs, capes, and oversized sunglasses running wildly towards Brandon, a teacher who was holding up a camera. The whole scene was quite entertaining but SO random. Turns out they were filming a commercial for an upcoming spirit day!

If I weren't relying solely on my webcam I would have much better pictures than this but a crappy picture is better than no picture at all, right?

2012 Goal: Project 52

After a year of posting a daily picture, I confess: I'm tired!! I don't want to stop working on my photography, though, so this year I am scaling back a bit and have set my sights on a Project 52. This means I'll be posting on a weekly basis (52 weeks in a year) rather than daily. For this project, I will take pictures that reflect a given weekly theme. Due to the nature of this project, I am not requiring myself to post on a daily basis, nor will I be limiting myself to one picture a day. For the second reason, Double Feature Friday may be gone for awhile. In its place I will be introducing "Foody Friday" posts. By far, my most popular subject matter in 2011 seemed to be food, so this year I will be practicing foody photography and hopefully introducing you to some new European cuisine. I may even branch out and share recipes if the featured food was something I prepared myself!

And yes, I know "foody" should be spelled with an -ie.

So, if you're interested in playing along, feel free to leave a link in the comments section so I can find you and follow along with you, too.

I'm really excited for this project, so let the fun begin!

#358: SADCC Day 25: the infinity 2

Presenting the final scarf tie of the Christmas season!

show&tell #358: SADCC Day 25: the infinity 2

Merry Christmas! The final scarf tie was supposed to be the decoration, but I didn't have anything that could pass for the little brooch the girl uses in the video so I decided to just skip it (since it's identical to the fake knot) and do my own tie for the last one. I call this the Infinity 2 because it's almost identical to the Infinity. Using a rectangle scarf, tie just the corners together rather than the entire end of each side. It makes a much smaller knot and it causes more "drapery" on the final product.

#357: SADCC Day 24: the double rainbow

I managed to find two scarves that work together for the double rainbow... and at the end of my rainbow is a huge box of Lucky Charms!! Yay Christmas!!

#356: SADCC Day 23: the basic loop

This one seems an awful lot like the modern one loop from Day 5... another one of those that is too similar to truly call a different style, but whatevs. Only two more scarf ties to go!!

#351: SADCC Day 18: the waterfall...sorta

I tried to do the waterfall today, but my scarf is too short to wrap around twice. So, this is the modified waterfall. I almost like this better than the actual waterfall.

Yes, it's snowing in my living room. Today we got snow in Kandern for the first time! It was during church and they opened the blinds so we could see it softly falling while we sang.

Also, by now you have noticed my epic hat. Today was my Elf Party, wherein we watched the movie and partook in the four main food groups of elves: candy, candy canes, candy corn, and syrup. Well, we didn't have syrup so it wasn't a balanced meal...

#350: SADCC Day 17: the key tie

I was so proud of myself for this one... and then I looked at the video again and realized it doesn't look anything like that it's supposed to! Oh well, I like the way it came out anyway. Today's picture represents today - multitasking for a super productive second day of vacation.

#349: SADCC Day 16: the wrap

Today is my first day of vacation!

I'm modeling another new scarf, this one a gift from my best friend here in Germany, Katrina. I'm also rocking an edgy necklace from my friend Megan (yay Christmas!) and crazy I-got-caught-in-a-torrential-downpour-today hair.

#348: SADCC Day 15: the toss

Today's scarf was imported from Hong Kong and was a Christmas gift from my awesome principal, Ruth. I LOVE IT!!

show&tell #348: SADCC Day 15: the toss
PS: I realize my fingers look pretty similar to Day 12. I promise: then, it was XII and today it's XV. :)

#347: SADCC Day 14: the braid

Confession time: I didn't actually wear this one in public. It felt like I had an elephant's tusk hanging from my neck. I guess it would work better with a thinner scarf, but it has to be long otherwise the braid won't work. Eh, anyway, two thumbs down.

#346: SADCC Day 13: the X

It was a long day. I almost didn't get around to taking this picture.

Oh, and The X is kind of impossible. I don't recommend it.
